MDT Proficiencies

Proficiencies are a vital checkpoint in your training, ensuring steady progress and preparation for a professional career in Music Dance Theatre. They provide opportunities to demonstrate your growth, receive constructive feedback, and set goals for continued development in voice, dance, and theatre.

Voice

At the end of each semester, students prepare five minutes of material to present in front of a faculty panel. Following the performance, students will receive written feedback and critique to guide their progress and to help set clear goals for the next semester.

Dance

Once a year, students participate in a dance proficiency taught by dance faculty or a member of a touring Broadway cast. In this session, a dance combination is taught to simulate the experience of a Broadway dance call. Students receive written or verbal feedback and evaluation to strengthen audition and performance readiness.

Theatre

At the conclusion of each semester, students complete an acting proficiency before a panel of acting professors. Students prepare two contrasting monologues, with the option to include a partner to read brief lines in the monologues to create a more complete scene. Constructive feedback and direction are given to support continued artistic growth. Acceptance into future acting courses is determined by the scores received.
