Job Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for carrying out programmatic events and projects that deepen the dialogue surrounding PBS Utah’s broadcast and digital content.

As Utah’s only PBS station, PBS Utah provides enriching, entertaining, and informative programming that fosters a deeper understanding of the world. We embrace new platforms, technologies, and media formats to bring communities the content and experiences they desire. The Community Engagement Program seeks out and presents available programming to strengthen the social, democratic, and cultural health of Utah’s diverse communities that crave relevant and inclusive content.

The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director of Programming & Community Engagement to further PBS Utah’s vision of sparking curiosity and inspiring audiences of all ages and perspectives to bridge divides and reach their full potential.

The Coordinator will be responsible for event-planning and project management. Events include film screenings, panel discussions, tabling at cultural festivals, as well as other creative endeavors that identify PBS Utah as a valued and essential player in media and content creation. Much of the work will be collaborative, but some events and projects will require initiative and the ability to work independently. The Coordinator will be a critical team member of PBS Utah as they work across departments to coordinate events and projects that affect and inform the station’s workflow and strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet programs preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

The successful candidate will have project/event management experience, excellent communication skills, and will be comfortable facilitating conversations and leading out in group settings.

PBS Utah also seeks candidates who believe in the mission of PBS Utah and are familiar with its legacy and programming. A willingness to continue to learn and adapt in a constantly evolving media environment is essential. Preference may be given to those who can easily converse in a second language.

  • Work with the Director of Community Engagement to develop and implement events and projects.
  • Administer the Book Club in a Box program: work with marketing team to promote the program, correspond with Book Club hosts, and prepare reports and impact data for funders.
  • Work with the Dir. of Community Engagement in using PBS Utah channels and platforms to attract new and engaged audiences.
  • Work with Grants Manager on proposals and reports for grants that fund the station’s engagement events and projects.
  • Bring ideas and help develop projects and partnerships that further the mission of PBS and maximize the visibility of the station’s endeavors across the state.
  • Work with community partners and serve as a liaison and face of PBS Utah in community settings such as festivals, public celebrations, markets, and PBS Utah events.
