2023 Austin Film Festival Screenplay and Film Competition Call For Entries

We are the Austin Film Festival. Currently in our 30th year, we are best known for our annual Film Festival and Writers Conference held each October in Austin, Texas. This event plays host to the largest screenwriters’ conference in the world, featuring over 200 panelists and panels that, along with film and television, now also explore storytelling mediums such as plays, podcasts, and digital series. Partnered with a film program that has welcomed artists on the frontlines of shaping culture, we are proud not only of our festival’s ability to celebrate story at such a scale, but the opportunities it provides for story development and career advancement.

A great way to get involved with Austin Film Festival is to submit to our annual competitions for Screenplays, Films, and Digital Series, which are calling for submissions now. Why should you submit to our competition? We want all writers/filmmakers who participate in our annual Competitions to walk away feeling equipped to tackle their next storytelling goal. It is a great beginning step in entering the larger film maker/writer community, as many of our past entrants can attest to. Our competitions give entrants access to exclusive programming in the conference and/or networking opportunities, such as our student discounts for submissions into all our categories for Screenplay, Film, and Digital Series Competitions.

With the first deadline approaching on March 23rd, we want to ensure you can take advantage of these great discounts before the entry fee goes up. The deadline dates for our competitions are as follows:

We would appreciate it if you could pass this information on to your students. We look forward to receiving your students’ submissions!

Also, we have internships available, and we offer a variety of opportunities year-round, ranging from Screenplay/Film to Event Planning to Marketing/PR. While all internships are unpaid, you'll learn how to work efficiently under pressure, manage small and large projects, collaborate with team members, and learn to think creatively in a business setting (all of which are highly valuable in today's job market). We’re looking for autonomous, hardworking people to help shape one of the most inspiring screenwriters’ conference and film festivals around.
