Auditions, Alpine Community Theatre: "Seussical"

Alpine Community Theater Announces Auditions for 2024 Summer Show

Alpine Community Theater (ACT) has sent out a call for AUDITIONS for our summer show, Seussical!, which will be performed July 12-22. Auditions will be held Saturday, May 18th at the Liahona Preparatory Academy located at 2464 W 450 S, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062.

Seussical is fun for the whole family! Performers of all ages will be excited to portray the characters from the familiar Dr. Seuss fables. Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

Audition times for Seussical are as follows: Children (8-12) on Saturday, May 18, from 9:00am to 12:00 p.m.; adults and teens (13 and up) on Saturday, May 18, from 12:30pm to 4:30 p.m. Plan to spend one hour to complete the audition process. Please contact Laura Snyder in advance at 801-404-0736 if a time other than what is outlined above is needed. All ages from 8 to 88 are invited to audition!

The following information will help you prepare for the auditions:

SINGING: Please be prepared to sing 16 measures of an upbeat Broadway Musical. (Nothing from Wicked or Hairspray PLEASE!) Please bring an electronic device with music/karaoke tracks to sing along with.

DANCING: Be prepared to learn dance steps by wearing appropriate footwear and clothing (no flip-flops or sandals). You will be asked to perform the learned dance steps during auditions as a group. There will be a tap number. Dust off your tap shoes and show us your tap steps!

ACTING: Some may be asked to read lines and do some improvisation. Presenting a one-minute monologue is optional at call backs only.

SPECIAL SKILLS: If you have special skills, such as gymnastics or acrobatics, please let us know at auditions. We would love to see these special talents!

CALL BACKS: Call backs will be held May 28-30. If we need you to return for a callback, you will be notified as to which date and time and location. Not every role needs a callback, so please remember to check the final cast list, even if you didn’t get called back.

FINAL CAST LIST: The final cast list will be posted on our website at alpinecommunitytheater.org on June 1 after 7:00pm. Please check this list even if you did not receive a call back!

MANDATORY PARENT/CAST/STAFF MEETING: If you or your child is cast in this musical, you must attend this meeting with your child on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Liahona Theater. Leads will stay for a read through until 10:00pm.
