Job Summary 

As a member of the Live Production Team, you will oversee live production events, with an emphasis on motion graphics design. This position will design and animate motion graphics and video projects in support of BYU campus customers, specifically in the area of Live Video Production.

The Live Production Team members oversee production events and associated facilities and equipment, including projection, sound, lighting, and recording equipment. They coordinate complex projects and communicate the technical implications to others while training others. They also perform maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting. This requires a rare and extremely high set of production management skills, including the ability to work with others to accomplish complex technical goals, under the pressure of extremely high production standards for events that are frequently broadcast internationally.

The events services are offered on a 24×7 basis, for a wide variety of clients and venues. All events are considered important, and many are high profile. This person will specialize in video production and motion graphic design, and will provide support or supervise/direct others who provide video production support for these events.

The individual filling this position must possess an extraordinary commitment to the University, as well as outstanding diplomacy and grace. This person must maintain exemplary professionalism and participate with the Live Production Team in such a way as to inspire confidence in the department’s ability to consistently produce excellent support for all events.

  • Production management and/or coordination of live events
  • Collaborate with creative content teams within various athletic teams to develop breakthrough content and unparalleled fan experience 
  • Creation of in-game graphics for LED ribbon signage and video board 
  • Production of video graphics, end tags, lower thirds, and editorials, as necessary 
  • Ability to produce on-brand creative that engages fans and communicates partner needs

What we are looking for:  

Education and Experience:   

This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. If you have a lot of education, experience, and skill, we’ll compensate you accordingly. If you are early in your career, this could be a great opportunity for you, too. Different levels of pay are assigned depending on experience/education/skills.   

Entry Professional (Level 52): Associate degree or two years of a combination of education and related experience required minimum. ($59,000 to $76,500 approximate starting salary range)

Career Professional (Level 53): Bachelor's degree or four years of a combination of education and related experience required. Bachelor's degree and related experience preferred. Supervision experience preferred. ($66,000 to $86,000 approximate starting salary range)

Professional (Level 54T): Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required. Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience preferred. Supervision experience preferred. ($79,500 to $103,000 approximate starting salary range)

Senior Professional (Level 55T): Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience, or master’s degree and 3 years, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience is required. A minimum of 2 years of technical supervision experience is required. ($92,500 to $120,000 approximate starting salary range)

Skills, abilities, or knowledge:  

You are not required to have experience in all areas listed below. What you don’t know we can teach you. We are seeking the most qualified candidates; the more you have, the more likely you are to be selected. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skills. 

Competent to proficient in at least one, maybe all, the following core technologies:  

  • Multi-camera video productions  
  • Production technical infrastructure  
  • Video systems  
  • Lighting  
  • Audio systems  

Specialty Areas:  

  • 5+ years of audio/video editing experience with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop required  
  • 3+ years with Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya, or other 3D software experience required. 
  • Post Production – Editing short-form programming: Teases, Show Opens, etc.  
  • Creating graphics/content for nontraditional media (LED/Fascia and matrix boards)  
  • Experience working in Ross Xpression is a plus  
  • Live video production, ENG shooting, lighting, and audio 
  • Must have an artistic vision, strong graphic design acumen, and precise attention to detail and be able to work under tight deadlines 

Experience in / knowledge of:  

  • Inventory, repair, and maintenance of video production equipment and systems  
  • Television lighting  
  • Technology trends and analysis  
  • Knowledge/expertise in multimedia equipment and (related) software  
  • Knowledge of venue systems
