RED RIVER (1948)

Exclusive vintage film projection in Library Auditorium, Thursday Jan. 26, 3pm.

This week we are featuring RED RIVER (1948) this THURSDAY at 3pm in the Library Auditorium.

This is a celebrated Western film directed and produced by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift.

It gives a fictional account of the first cattle drive from Texas to Kansas along the Chisholm Trail.

Great dramatic tension stems from a growing feud over the management of the drive between the Texas rancher who initiated it and his adopted adult son.

Upon its release, Red River was both a commercial and a critical success and was nominated for two Academy Awards, and was added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in just the second year of honorees.

Why we have this in our archive: Howard Hawks directed the film, and we have his papers in Special Collections. Plus we have lots of Westerns.

Come see the film on celluloid and talk through some history.
