Classical Greek Theatre Festival Returns to BYU with Aeschylus''Prometheus Bound'

The Westminster College Department of Theatre Arts presents the tragic tale of the Titan Prometheus

Westminster College will return to BYU's de Jong Concert Hall on Sept. 23 as part of their annual Classical Greek Theatre Festival

This year's production of Aeschylus'"Prometheus Bound" continues Westminster's long-standing tradition of bringing ancient Greek theatre to audiences throughout Utah. Now in its 49th season, the festival serves to introduce campuses and communities to plays that might otherwise be inaccessible and foster appreciation for these foundational works and authors.

"Prometheus Bound" opens in the immediate aftermath of the Titan Prometheus'legendary defiance of the gods, in which he stole fire from the Olympians and restored it to mankind. The play follows his tragic fall as he is punished by Zeus and visited by other figures from Greek mythology.

The Classical Greek Theatre Festival production — which is directed by Emilio Casillas and uses a translation by William Matthews — opens on Sept. 5 at Westminster's Courage Theatre before beginning its tour.
