Profile: Harold Oaks has taught at the University of Minnesota (1961-64), Frostburg State University (1964-66), University of Nebraska at Kearney (1966-68); Colorado State University (1968-70) and BYU (1970-2002). He served as the TMA department chair from 1980-1993 and then the Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts & Communications from 1999-2002 at BYU. He has most recently been honored by TYA/USA (Theatre for Young Audiences) by naming the organization’s annual Award in his name: The Harold Oaks Distinguished Service Award (March 2013). He has also received the BYU distinguished Service Award (October 2011), and the International Association of Theatre for Children & Young People (ASSITEJ) Honorary President’s Award (May 2008). He is currently married to Ima Jean Oaks, and has served missions in the Netherlands, in the Europe Area Office, Washington D.C. North Mission, Philippines Manila Mission, and the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission on the island of St. Thomas. He has had the privilege of representing the Church and BYU as an officer in several regional, national and international professional organizations.
